A good exercise to develop coaching skills and insight into own leadership capability. My LSBU students loved it. The title owes much to Don Berwick's advice to start with self, and work outwards.
Ask people to work in pairs. They spend 5-10 minutes working out how to present an achievement to their partner. Then the first of the pair 'pitches' to their partner. The partner then asks questions designed to elicit what leadership qualities were exhibited in this example. Then it's the second person's turn to pitch and be helped to identify her leadership qualities. Finally, allow 10 minutes to share findings across the whole group. This whole exercise will take longer than you think, probably because we so rarely get the opportunity to talk about what makes us proud and happy to an attentive audience. Allow at least 30 minutes
